The kick-off of yet another legendary festival of Student Days is almost here. From 12-18 September the city of Tartu will be filled with crazy, exciting and fulfilling events for students from every corner of the world. But to make it easier to choose from all those amazing events the organizers of the festival have made a special festival schedule for all the international students!
Start your festival week at the traditional Pancake morning (8:00-12:00, Townhall square) with lots of free pancakes and other good food. After the daily lectures go explore Tartu some more and attend an exciting Photo Scavenger Hunt on roller-skates (18:00, Anne kanal's Health Trail). After a small exercise finish your day in a good company at the Language Cafe (19:00, Illegaard).
Tuesday night offers something for everybody. If you’re a virtual reality lover or just want to experiment then VR Night Out & Social Gaming of the Future (18:30, Ülikooli 17) is the perfect place for you. Culture-enthusiasts should drop by or why not even read some of their own poems on the stage of Poetry Freedom (18:00, Galerii Noorus), where everybody’s free to present their verses. Or perhaps you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, because then be prepared for the most heated debate of the year: Should Daenerys Targaryen try to conquer the Iron Throne? (19:30, Genialistide club).
On Wednesday afternoon you’ll have an amazing opportunity to actually witness and try out Craft beer brewing (15:00, Tähe 133c) the Estonian way at Pühaste brewery. After learning all the secrets of beer brewing it’s about time to do some exercising with your fellow students at the iconic Student Days event Autumn Aerobics (18:00-20:00, The Sports Building of the University of Tartu, Ujula 4). Furthermore, you’ll have a chance to become the Aerobics Queen/King of the year. After some proper workout head to the Pillow cinema night at AHHAA (21:00, Science Centre AHHAA) with your buddies to enjoy the science fiction thriller „Transcendence“. PS. Don’t forget to take your pillow with you!
After your sessions join the Studentdays canoe trip (17:15, registration via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org) to discover the picturesque river of Emajõgi and finish the evening by becoming a real citizen of the world at A Night Around the World (19:00, Arhiiv) where you’ll get to know the countries from Canada to Ghana and from Taiwan to Brazil with the best dances, songs, food and much more.
Start your Friday evening by gathering all your music-loving friends and attend The Great Student Days Music Quiz (18:00, Sodiaak, Riia 24b). Continue the evening with a sizzlingly hot Discussion Forum: "Possibilities for Eco-Revolution in Clothing and Textile Sector" (19:00-20:30, Idea Lab, Narva mnt 4) where the topic of ecoinnovation will be in the center of attention. And what would be a better way to end the week than with the most epic party. Pretty ok party (22:00, Club Illusion) joins students of all specialties and offers lots of surprises, great DJs and an atmosphere full of energy.
You’ll have yet another chance to start your relaxing weekend by discovering more of the beautiful Estonian nature at the traditional students’ Autumn Hike (12:30, Suur Taevaskoja) in Suur Taevaskoda or if you decide to stay in Tartu that day then the Cart Rally (14:00-15:30, Küüni street) is another crazy and exciting event to take part of or just to observe. At the rally the participants will compete in pairs using shopping carts to find the best carting couple in the city! Following an active afternoon join in for a bit of laugh at the Stand-up Science 2016 (18:00-20:00, Näituse 2, round auditorium) where comedy and science come together combined with lot of laughter and also great new knowledge.
The perfect ending for this fascinating festival week is definitely the Student Extreme (13:00, the surroundings of the Arched Bridge) which will bring the most heart-pounding moments straight to the center of Tartu. You will see crazy attractions, climbing, crawling, all kinds of extreme things and most definitely a heated rivalry between students. You can either participate or just enjoy the show.
